Our recent lace day on 21st May was declared a resounding success by everyone who attended.  All tickets were sold.

Lace makers of all levels, from around the County of Northamptonshire, as well as visitors from Leicestershire, Buckinghamshire, and Bedfordshire gathered at 10 am, at The Crescent Community Centre, Laburnum Crescent in Kettering.  Many of them had not seen each other since before Covid, so a great deal of drinking tea and coffee, eating homemade cake, and chatting took place, as well as some lace making.  We even got to sing Happy Birthday to one of our member’s who was to be 90 in a couple of weeks’ time.

Our raffle raised £140 so together with the £60 raised from last years delayed event in September, a total of £200 will be winging its way to “Johnny’s Happy Place” a local Kettering Charity which provides a place for young people to visit and chat.

Three suppliers attended the event; Roseground, selling a variety of bobbin lace making equipment, threads, and patterns, as well as 2 bobbin makers; Acorn Bobbins and MD Bobbins.  We are always grateful to the suppliers who attend our Lace Day as they are a valuable resource for those who neither have transport to get to Lace Fairs or computers on which to order supplies online. Details of these and others are available on our Suppliers List with their kind permission.

The Crescent Community Centre has been the venue for our Annual Kettering Lace Day for the last few years and it is a very light spacious environment for lace making.  We take this opportunity to thank all those responsible for its maintenance and upkeep, but particularly Eddie who lets us book the hall, Mandy who helps in the run up to our event and this year, Debbie who cooked our morning bacon rolls.

In closing I would like to say a big thank you to our Kettering Lace Group for all the help and support they provide and continue to provide, in the running of our Lace Day. Congratulations.

The next Kettering Lace Day will be on Saturday 20thMay 2023 at The Crescent Community Hall, Laburnum Crescent, Kettering.  Tickets will be on sale from July 2022 at a cost of £6.00. All abilities welcome, look forward to seeing you all in 2023.
